Utility Knife conceptual study.
Purpose of the study: To conceptualize a new product, an all purpose
utility knife that makes almost automatic the flipping over of a half used
blade, the discharge of a fully used blade and the resetting of a new blade.
The tool shown with the die cast blade door
open with sheet metal locater springs.  Front
compartment holds the blades that will be
reloaded. Rear compartment is for extra blades.
The Utility knife shown with the utility
blade retracted. Note the three
positions of the actuator/shuttle and the
side blade door.
The bade and actuator/shuttle is fully
extended for the flipping over of the
blade or for the discarding of the
blade.

When the empty actuator/shuttle is retracted,
it picks up a new blade ready to be shuttled
out for use. The mechanism for this useful
tool isn't much more complicated than
existing utility knives.
