Drill Bit Dresser conceptual study.
Purpose of the study: To define a low cost drill bit dresser for touching
up conventional drill bits. It should be small for tool box applications.
Patent Pending
Drill bit shown clamped within
the housing and oriented by
eye. The base of the paper
holder is angled to
accomodate the rake angle of
the bit.
Simple piece parts that meet
manufacturing cost goals
with a strip of standard
aluminum oxide sand paper.
One sheet of paper will last
for years.
Tidbit of information:
Original concept was
rotary with many parts.
Reliability and cost led to
the more practical gadget
above.
The paper holder is shown closed against
the tip of the drill. The operator moves the
holder up and down a holf dozen times to
hone one side of the tip. The bit is then
rotated 180 degrees to hone the opposite
side.
